China PR Study Tour 2006

Gyroscope will lead a group of senior corporate communications professionals on a ‘PR study tour’ of China in March 2006.  The tour is designed to give delegates a real insight into the structure of China’s PR industry, and the media, regulatory and cultural landscape in which it operates.

During the week long visit to Beijing and Shanghai, delegates will meet experienced in-house PR managers for Chinese and western organisations; PR agency heads; Government officials; journalists from western and Chinese media outlets; and academics and researchers.

Corporate communications and PR activity in China is growing extremely fast, and is already an essential element in building brands and businesses.  However, it is a highly complex market, in which it is very easy to make mistakes, losing time, money and opportunity, and putting reputation at severe risk.

Gyroscope’s PR Landscape of China, published in June 2005, showed that while the industry is growing at some 40-50% per year, standards of competence, professional practice and probity are markedly variable.  Good practitioners are in short supply; staff poaching is rampant; and a gold rush mentality often leads to poor delivery of low price, low quality programmes.

Within China’s PR industry, clients can find services and resources that match the best in the world; they can also find chaos, corruption and catastrophe.  This study tour will help delegates understand how to find the best and avoid the rest.

Delegates confirmed to date represent UK trade associations, Government departments and private sector companies.
